How very interesting...
An interview with Alfonso Cuaron, nicked from brokenbacktango:

"Professor Lupin, played by David Thewlis, who is like your favorite gay uncle who does smack--"

"Well, if it had been about me, these kids would have been having sex from pretty much the second scene... so, you see what I mean about repressing your ego? *laughs* I mean... two boys and a girl..."

He actually says some good things about coming in and directing a movie that is part of an established franchise (not to mention established universe and fanbase) that are comparable to writing fanfiction... about leaving behind your ego to immerse yourself inside this world someone else has created, while still bringing your own point of view to the material. Dear fanfic authors: you can learn from Mr. Cuaron. Seriously.

Having just got back from watching that film a second time...all I can say is - ha ha! I totally see it. I mean, they gay uncle part I could get, but now I know what was so insane about him listening to that music... Nice interview, thanks for the link. ^-^

Now if only we could ask Mr Cuaron the link between him saying that Remus is your favourite gay uncle and Mr Kloves (or however you spell it) telling us that Remus was in love with Lily in many ways. There is something rather clashing between these two statements! *ignores any ideas that they might have been speaking metaphorically* >:D

Oh, I refuse to accept Remus' Lily-lovin' until I read it from JKR. As in, in the books. I don't know, every time I see that scene I like it less and less. (Although I have no real problem making lewd comments under my breath about Remus sexing James behind Lily's back. :D Yes, he is our favorite gay uncle! I'm trusting Alfonso on this one.)

Metaphoooors, Senor? We don' need no steeenkin' metaphoooors! >_> *music continues to be madcap over sounds of werewolf-baiting*

Y'ever get the feeling Alfonso's not the straightest branch on the tree?

I do, and it amuses me greatly. :D He may just be my new hero, considering how happy he is to talk about nitpicky sexual undertones in his PG-rated movie.

Lupin had such a gay aspect to him at the end when he was talking about "his lot" keep getting thrown out of jobs for who they are. As for doing smack, well, he listens to jazz, doesn't he?

I remember when Harry, Hermione and Ron got scared at one point and huddled together. I thought "Ah yes, this is from the director of Y Tu Mama Tambien alright." Nice to see it confirmed, though I can't help thinking the religious right don't need any more reasons to hate this franchise...
