"You're not a freak! You're just stupid!"
Oh my fucking god, people. If all I looked at was fandumb all day, I would think that the world had gone horribly, horribly mad.

Let us first examine this monstrosity of over-enthused, under-educated reasoning. Brilliant! I particularly enjoy the subtle irony as she fails to grasp how one cannot possibly use the terms "Great Art" and "SGA McShep slavefic epic" in the same context and be taken at all seriously.

Then we have mighty feminists who summon their power and scathingly witless commentary against some dumb jokes! And, of course, this begets a pathetically humorless Fandom Wank post. Yay. Because, I mean, that wasn't predictable in any way, shape, or form.

And then we have countless people whose opinions I could not care less about weighing in on the supposed importance of this "FanLib" thing. Some people appear to get into such a frothing rage over this that I find myself wondering whether they actually have other things in their lives to worry about. Hell, I'm more bothered by all of the truly idiotic gender discussion people have been cranking out lately (and trust me, that's actually fairly low on my list of things to bitch and/or worry about). I'd ask people to explain this shit, except I don't think I honestly want to know.

Still, WHAT THE HELL, PEOPLE???

oh god i am getting the fucking fuck off this planet before it's too late

If I ever manage to figure out the secret passage, I most certainly will, yes.

Oh God, on a first reading, I actually thought this had to be a joke.

Actually I think of Jenkins (and Joss Whedon) as being fangirls who are, for reasons that do not need to be explored at this junction, male.
WHAT.

I was amazed at all the people who were agreeing with her at first. You'd think someone would have gone, "Haha... you're totally kidding, right?" in the first couple of comments. But no. Then I remember that this is Livejournal and fandom and Internet, which sometimes enjoys nursing its misconceptions into fat and happy little delusions.

"Fangirls that are male" seems to be the justification for/explantion of the existence of non-horrible, non-threatening males who kind of enjoy the same things they do. It's so beautifully, needlessly complicated.
