Whoops, looks like my second dragon hatchling died. *cough* My other one survived and turned into a gigantic monster so I don't feel too bad; I'll just adopt another. Hm. Too bad, though. It's widdle pixel existence was snuffed out by my carelessness.

Adopt one today!

I won't let you down this time, little pixel dragon!

Here's the one I have that survived to adulthood and will now be immortal forever and ever, amen:

Adopt one today!

His name is BearMcCreary. Shut up, I was running really low on name ideas because it wouldn't accept any of the good ones I had and I refuse to put numbers in names! He's a monstrosity. Luckily, a monstrosity with an appreciation for ethnic instruments.

Also: didn't think it was possible but it seems Alice is even worse than Tin Man! Even though I don't really care for either of them, I still ship Alice/Mad Hatter. Further proof that real life is corrupting me: I'm shipping not just het couples but canon het couples. Do I have to turn in my slash goggles now?

Cynic that I am, I always tend to assume, when LJ provides me with an anonymous "gift", that it actually comes from The Management, in an attempt to encourage me to provide others with such gifts. In case I am wrong, however, thank you to whoever sent me the snowflake, and I'm sorry I thought you were a marketing ploy.

Why this must be read: Because it's a really hot, kinky, well put-together threesome fic. There are lots of feelings. And pegging! I have read this fic multiple times, which is pretty rare for me. It's just really, really well written.

ok, i finished the last article, and i'm now smoothing out and editing the essay. i have to make it the right length by cutting out whatever doesn't totally relate to my thesis statement. this should take an hour or so, depending on how brutal i can be. i have 22 citations, and eight of them are attributed to one author. so the first place i'll try to cut is into her lot. i'll cut a couple away from her material, somehow. after that, i'll need to spend an hour or so going over the checklists and seeing that i have adequate topic and transitional sentences. which i know i don't yet, so i'll need to create them, that's why it'll take some time. counting in time pointlessly wasted on the internet btwn each task, i should be done by 1am. that is my goal right now. i hope it happens. because it would be awesome to sleep six or seven hours, if i could.

rupert came back around 9pm and rapidly produced amazing sandwiches, plus gave me dr. pepper and chocolate. aaand back comes the five pounds i've lost. i could stand to take off some pounds of chub, but those five were lost due to lack of appetite, not the admirable discipline associated with exercising and eating healthy food. anyway, the food was extremely helpful. because i hadn't really done that yet today, in terms of something solid and substantial.

i'm listening to the band altered images.

Throughout this weekend of utter pain, I have discovered a little bit of light in one Miss Coco Sumner (Gordon's daughter - aka Sting).

She is fantastic, beautiful, and has an amazing, soothing voice.

Here is my favorite version of one of my favorite of her tracks:

I'm guessing if I started a blog on her, she'd probably be very appreciative and grateful...*cough*

Thank you again for all the support, guys. I can't thank you enough. It has made this weekend somewhat bearable.

~OMG SNOWFLAKE COOKIES. Thanks dudes! Man, I wish there was like a "mass send" option on them.

~I went to visit my grandparents in Madison today! I will upload pictures another time, because I'm feeling lazy right now. My dad hypnotized a chicken. That happened.

~I think Elf might be my favorite Christmas movie. BEFORE ANYONE GETS ALL "NO NO NO YOU ARE SO WRONG, A CHRISTMAS STORY/FROSTY THE SNOWMAN/CLAYMATION RUDOLPH/SOME OTHER CLASSIC IS THE BEST MOVIE," know that A) I'm not a big Christmas person* and B) that translates to some extreme hatred of Christmas movies. Elf, however, is both the pinnacle of Will Ferrell and Christmas flicks, because I like WF best when he's being earnest and sweet (screw the Anchorman BS he's been doing) and this movie's message, while slightly trite, was delivered in such a friendly and unhamhanded way that I can't help but adore it, despite its Christmas theme. Also, Zooey Deschanel. \o/

Then again, I also like Jingle All The Way, so my taste is questionable.

~The It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia Christmas special, however, was unadulterated awesome. Why is everyone in the world not watching this show? I think it's a pretty worthy successor to Arrested Development (OOH THIS IS A POST WITH VERY CONTROVERSIAL OPINIONS), especially since nobody can decide if the movie's on or not.

~I really need to upload the music that's sitting all zipped and waiting on my desktop. There's like three mixes, two albums, and a bunch of random songs. OOPS.

*I like presents and an excuse to eat my weight in baked goods, that's about it. Give me a couple of days--the first time I hear Christmas Shoes in a store or something, I will come home and make a rageful allcaps post about how all Christmas music is the devil and I am going to fight the people who think it has any merit as a song or a lesson WITH MY TEETH. I do this every year.

Hey y'all. I'm Alice, and I will be your crack dealer for anything related to the fine, upstanding young men and women who made the Top 10 of this past season of American Idol, which ran on Fox from January to May of this year. And also some of their friends and family! Season 8 idols know how to share the, uh, love.

For those for whom competitive reality television is not a strong interest point, fear not: I didn't watch a single damn episode of this season. And yet look at me now, flush with both interesting facts about the participants of the show and a ream of excellent fic for you to read over this month! You really, really don't need to be a fan of the show to appreciate the Idols and enjoy the fic, trust me.

HTML don't fail me not. )

The appeal of the Fictional Swine

So I'm reading a proof copy of a forthcoming novel (Mike Thomas's Pocket Notebook) and something about my reaction to the hero begins to seem familiar. Jake, aka PC Jacob Smith, firearms officer and part-time foot fetishist, is an intelligent man, capable, sometimes, of genuine concern for others and he has a wicked but undeniably witty way with words. I can't help grinning as he bitches about the resented younger colleague on his way up, whose name he can't keep in mind, "I just referred to him as Seal Pup because all I wanted to do was club him to death", or when he and his mate Frank, on a dull shift, play police snooker (pulling cars over, first a red, then a colour; the game ends when they can't find a pink one).

But he's also an adulterer who drinks too much, has a steroid habit and beats up prisoners in the back of the van, and while part of him wants to protect every woman he meets, much of the time he's what they need protecting from.

In fact, as I suddenly realise, I am, once again, Forgiving the Bastard….

Pocket Notebook, btw, is due out in February next year, and the publisher's representative is happy for this post to be published in public forums.
